Caithness United under-13s had a fine 6-1 victory over their Forres Mechanics counterparts at Wick’s Upper Bignold Park on Sunday in their penultimate fixture of the Moray Firth Youth Development League season.

Caithness started brightly and raced to a two-goal lead in the first period through strikes from their in-form frontmen Sam Reid and Lucas Reid.

The home side squandered several decent chances before Forres broke away and Jack Miller calmly slid the ball past Grant Kennedy to reduce the deficit.

The Forres strike seemed to spur Caithness on and they dominated the rest of the game, producing some impressive one-touch passing moves. The defence stood resolute against the visitors' rare attacks, with Elliot Cormack’s overlapping runs from full-back proving very effective.

Kieran Macgregor was the next Caithness player to capitalise on the persistent pressure, netting a well-executed penalty. Owen Bain and Lucas Reid each finished off some nice interchange play to take the score to 5-1.

Just before the final whistle, Bain doubled his tally by unleashing an unstoppable effort past the helpless Grant Napier.

This goal was a fitting finale to what proved to be an excellent afternoon for the Caithness youngsters.

The man of the match award was shared between Owen Bain, Lucas Reid and Elliot Cormack.
