The incident took place on Tuesday night during the Caithness First Division match between Thurso Acks and Wick Groats.

The match was stopped after Trueman sustained the injury and an ambulance team was called to the scene.

Due to the extent of the injury and treatment required by ambulance technicians the match was abandoned.

Thurso Acks released a statement on their Twitter site confirming Trueman's injury.

They wrote: "Match abandoned due to a serious knee injury to player/manager Craig Trueman.

"Everyone at the club wishes Craig a speedy recovery to full fitness.

"Thanks to the @Scotambservice technicians who attended to Craig."

Wick Groats were leading the match 3–0 before the injury took the place.

This week was the penultimate round of matches in the Caithness First Division with the final round of First Division fixtures scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

It has not been confirmed by the Caithness Amateur Football Association when or if the match will be rearranged.
