Caithness Riding Club members were able to get back to activities at the weekend with some instruction and fun jumping.

They were keen to get out and about again with a total of 26 horses coming forward on Sunday. It was a busy day with the club seeing larger than usual numbers in the different classes. The most popular height was 75-80cm with 14 entries and all those going clear went straight through to the jump-off.

Some very quick times were recorded, with the fastest speed of the day going to Frances Sutherland, winner of the 65-70cm class. The young coach made some very tight turns with her old faithful pony club schoolmaster Walt, finishing on 31.07 seconds.

Junior rider Liam Mackenzie was close on her heels and certainly looked very quick taking some strides out with his talented pony Henry, stopping the clock on 31.26 seconds.

Frances also won the 80cm top score competition securing 1240 points with Walt, and she was first in the 85-90cm jumping with her new event horse Cosmo. Making her debut at the club and winning the first class of the day (55-60cm) was Ellen Finnigan, riding Ed.

Ten riders got through to the jump-off in the 75-80cm class with Alysha Holmes on Ladybug clinching the win with a very speedy 32 seconds. The 60cm top score competition was won by Megan Gillon, riding Rockstar, with a total of 760 points.

Fortunately the weather was good and the event was able to go ahead in the outdoor school thanks to the committee members and willing volunteers who helped on the day.

On the Saturday 16 riders took part in the evergreen instruction provided by local instructor Jean Gunn.
