Two ex-Rangers heroes will be heading to Caithness this summer to pass on some of their skills and football knowledge to local youngsters.

Marvin Andrews and Charlie Miller will each hold two-day training sessions in separate events being organised by Thurso Football Academy.

On July 3 and 4 the Rangers Soccer Academy will return to Thurso with club ambassador Marvin to coach children aged from two to 15 at the Naver all-weather pitch. This event, sponsored by Robbie Fraser, sold out within 12 hours of being advertised.

Marvin was part of the Rangers squad that won the Scottish title in 2005 after beating Hibs on the last day of the season, otherwise known as Helicopter Sunday as a helicopter had to change course in order to deliver the league trophy.

A serious injury didn't stop Marvin from continuing to play that season as he put his faith in God to heal him.

On August 5 and 6 the Charlie Miller Football Academy will be coming back to Thurso to coach children aged between four and 15, again at the Naver venue. There are only a few places left for this event, which is sponsored by Robbie Fraser and Scott Youngson.

Charlie was part of the Rangers squad during the nine-in-a-row period, and it was his cross from which Brian Laudrup scored against Dundee United to secure the Ibrox side's ninth successive league title.

Both events are being supported by Thurso active schools.

Thurso Football Academy's head of coaching Alyn Gunn said: "It is fantastic to be able to take these events to Thurso after the year we have all endured. With Rangers winning a 55th league title this season there has been a lot of local interest in the Rangers Soccer Academy coaching sessions – so much so that the event sold out within 12 hours.

"With Marvin, as an ambassador for the club, also coming up I'm sure we are in for a successful weekend.

"Charlie is well known in the area, having coached here over a number of years. Every time he takes his football academy north the sessions sell out so that speaks for itself.

"With literally only a handful of places left, we are heading in that direction again so we are looking forward to the August event and seeing him once more."

Anyone wishing to book a place for the Charlie Miller Football Academy should contact Alyn.

He added: "I would like to thank Derek Shearer of East End, Paul Reid of Thurso United, David McGill of Castletown and Jay Dufour, the Thurso active schools co-ordinator, for their continuing support towards these events."

Alyn works alongside coaches Richie Campbell and Tom McKenna at Thurso Football Academy.
