Evan honoured at north sports forum

The delegates at the inaugural F.I.T (Future, Interactive, Training) to Coach conference attended workshops on general themes and specific to golf, hockey, badminton, swimming and rugby.

Special guests were Scotland rugby legend Chris Paterson and top rugby coach Rob Moffat who gave an insight into their player/coach relationships over the years.

Among the highlights of the day was the presentation of the 2012 Highland Coaching Awards. The recipients included Reay golf coach Evan Sutherland who took the honours in the Performance Coach of the Year category.

The competition was launched in August when clubs, athletes, family and friends were urged to nominate their candidates for the awards.

Other winners were:

* Young Coach of the Year – Storm Fraser, Inverness.

* Community Coach – Steve MacKinnon of Nairn Kayak Club.

* Young Persons Coach – Shirley Murray, Golf coach at Torvean Golf Club, Inverness.

* Development Coach – Niall Clark, Boxing coach at Lochaber Phoenix Boxing Club, Fort William.

* Disability Coach – Linda McCulloch, Highland Disability Sport Swimming Club, Inverness.
