Group 1 saw Douglas Fraser, Danny Hitchin, Lorna McDermid and Brian Cormack progress to the semis after topping the group on 10 points. Joining them there were Angela Grant, Robbie Tait, Sandra Grant and Derry Cormack, from the Rosebank Club in Wick, who finished on nine.

Charlie Newlands, Ronnie Bain junior, Harry Cormack and Johnty MacLeod finished top of group 2, with 10 points, with Bonnie Dymond, Nancy MacAdie, Keith Boden and Peter Dymond runners-up on eight.

Both semis were close, with Dymond’s rink snatching a last-end win over Brian Cormack and co while Derry Cormack’s foursome beat MacLeod’s rink on the last end.

The final was just as exciting with Dymond’s rink holding onto a slim lead to win. Thurso ladies had a double celebration on Saturday, with Janet Sinclair in the singles, and the quartet of Liz Rhodes, Betty MacDonald, Joan Elder and Judy Mowat each winning their Scottish District Championship ties to qualify for the national finals in Ayr at the end of July.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is Ladies Day, with entries having to be in by 10am.
