Jack Henry hopes Wick Academy can continue the impressive form they showed in the 2-2 draw at Brora over the remainder of their Highland League campaign.

The 30-year-old midfielder scored the Scorries' second goal at Dudgeon Park on Saturday, and it looked like being enough to earn them a first league victory over their far north rivals for more than nine years until Dale Gillespie rescued a point for the champions deep in stoppage time.

Steven Anderson put Academy in front inside 10 minutes but Brora levelled in controversial circumstances just before half-time when a header by Martin Maclean was adjudged to have crossed the line before it was nodded clear by Jack Halliday.

“It was a tough one to take – we probably should have won that one," Henry said.

“We started the first half pretty well and then we maybe dropped too far back and let them back in it.

“I don't actually know if the first one went over the line. It looked like Jack was on the line when he headed it.”

Henry modestly described his 57th-minute strike as “hit and hope”. The chance was set up by Anderson after Brora's substitute keeper Ruardhri Nicol had been pulled out of position.

Henry said: “Ando had a crack and it came back to him. He cut it across and I was lucky enough to get something on it.

“I thought we had done enough. It's one of those things.

“We played well enough to win, and hopefully we can take that into our last seven games.

"Hopefully we'll get a good run until the end of the season."

Academy had to wait until the beginning of October for their first league victory this term, a 3-1 success against Fort William, after a series of six score draws and three defeats in their opening nine fixtures. But they went on a run of eight wins from nine games between November and January.

Henry feels the Scorries are making good progress under player/manager Gary Manson and his coaches.

“Things have improved under Gaz, definitely,” he said.

Henry had a spell on the sidelines with a foot injury earlier in the season and he came off with 10 minutes to go at Dudgeon Park after feeling a recurrence. But he added: “I'm feeling fitter – I'm getting there.”

Henry signed for Academy in August 2017 and his strike at Brora brought his goal tally to 11 in 87 competitive appearances.
