ATHLETES from Caithness are set to be among more than 3000 runners when the Inverness Half Marathon gets under starter’s orders on Sunday.
Former race winner and current Mountain Running World Series champion Andrew Douglas is among the favourites to win the 13.1 mile race. The Halkirk-born runner, who is based in Edinburgh, is looking to maintain the storming start he has made to his 2016 season.
Fellow members of North Highland Harriers will also be taking part in the race as well as others from the far north.
A five kilometre fun run is also taking place with both races finishing on the track at Queen’s Park Stadium, where a huge crowd is expected to gather to cheer the runners across the line.
The nominated charity of both events is the Highland Hospice, with funds raised going towards the £4.5 million project to rebuild the inpatient unit of the Inverness facility.
Lots of other charities and good causes operating throughout the Highlands and beyond also stand to benefit.
