THE first Sunday series of Pentland Firth Yacht Club was completed at the weekend.

Of the 18 races scheduled, 14 were staged with the remainder cancelled due to lack of or excess wind.

Each race took place in Thurso Bay with the sailors racing around buoys for around 45 minutes; faster boats complete more laps and the results are calculated based on average lap time.

The series saw 12 different helms participate with Roy Donn the winner by a clear margin in his Mirror dinghy.

Roy won the three races on Sunday on his way to victory. Mark Hughes, who completed the beginners’ training earlier this year, finished the race and each lap was quicker than the one before.

Husband-and-wife Dave and Marjory Lord continued their ongoing contest, both racing Laser 4.7s. Honours went to Dave 3-0, but over the series Marjory just edged the victory once the four discards were taken into account.

The series results were: Roy (12 pts), Barbara Newson (21 points), Marjory (29 pts), Dave (29 pts) and Chris Hill (34 pts).
