Defensive display keeps Academy top
Goals Wick: Macadie (14) Weir (33) Geruzel (74) Formartine: Park (43)
WICK Academy held their nerves to stay top of the Highland League when an impressive defensive display secured three points against Formartine United.
The visitors dominated the majority of the match as Michael Gray, Alan Farquhar and Gary Manson all impressed at the back to secure the win.
The opening goal came from a free kick after 14 minutes when a high boot from Craig McKeown landed in the face of Davie Allan.
Manson whipped the ball into the box which was punched out by Andrew Shearer, but Richard Macadie collected from the edge of the box to fire home into the top left corner.

Manson played provider for the second goal after the half hour from the left wing, setting up Gary Weir who launched a rocket from 20 yards that cannoned off the underside of the bar and over the line.
Formartine picked up the pace and pulled one back before half time when Daniel Park tapped in a David Donald cross.
The visitors dominated the second half and Gray pulled off a spectacular save from a Craig McKeown free kick to keep the scores level before the hour mark.
Formartine were made to pay for not taking their chances in the 74th minute when Lukasz Geruzel got on to the end of a Davie Allan cross to tap home from six yards.
Wick Academy head to Cove Rangers next weekend in another top of the table clash with the Aberdeen side only two points behind the Scorries after they beat Forres 3-1.
