Cup ties bring contrasting fortunes for Thurso High School football and netball teams

Thurso High School senior girls’ football team took part in the North of Scotland Cup for the first time.

The girls played at home against a well-organised and experienced Tain Royal Academy side who ran out 15-0 winners.

It was a difficult challenge for the Thurso girls but they grew with confidence over the game.

The senior boys’ football team travelled to Kirkwall Grammar School in stormy conditions to play in the first round of the Scottish School Cup. Thurso started well and had some opportunities in the first half but the strong Kirkwall side came away with a 4-1 victory.

The boys are looking forward to their next fixture in the North of Scotland Cup against Lossiemouth at home.

Thurso’s S1 netball team travelled to Alness Academy to play Fortrose Academy and Inverness Royal Academy in the first round of the Scottish Schools Cup.

Thurso produced some excellent shooting as they won their first game against Fortrose Academy. The girls were then straight on again against Inverness Royal Academy and kept up the momentum with another excellent victory.

This means Thurso’s S1 netball team join their S2 and S3 counterparts in progressing to the next round of the Scottish Schools Cup.
