Head coach Tom McKenna is hoping for a good crowd to cheer on Caithness Ladies in their SWF Highlands and Islands League Cup semi-final against Sutherland this weekend.

Caithness will be full of confidence going into the tie at Castletown on Sunday after a convincing 8-1 victory over Clachnacuddin Women at Fortrose in their latest league outing.

Sarah Henderson led the way with a hat-trick, while Carly Erridge struck twice. Sophie Kinghorn, Anna Foubister and Anna Swanson were also on the scoresheet for Caithness and Hannah Hutson was named as player of the match.

“We played Clachnacuddin in the first game of the season and drew one each with them," McKenna said. "I thought it should have been six or seven for us that day.

"I said to the ladies on Sunday, 'Let's see how far we've progressed from the first game of the season until now.'

"You'd like to think there's a progression. It was a really good result. For us to go out and beat them 8-1 down at their place, it sends a good message out to everyone else that we're moving forward as a team and as a club."

The cup clash with Sutherland kicks off at 2pm on Sunday at Back Park.

"It would be good for the ladies to get the backing of people. It might push them on a bit," McKenna said.

“They've never been to a final so it's a big game for them.”

Last weekend's result lifted Caithness to third in the SWF Highlands and Islands League. They are on 13 points, the same as Sutherland, who have a game in hand.

Caithness booked their place in the last four of the cup with a 4-1 victory over Ross and Cromarty at Back Park last month.

Buckie Ladies take on Nairn Ladies in this weekend's other semi-final. Those teams met in a league fixture last Sunday and it ended in a runaway 11-1 win for leaders Buckie as they maintained their 100 per cent record.

Results – SWF Highlands and Islands League: Nairn Ladies 1, Buckie Ladies 11; Clachnacuddin Women 1, Caithness Ladies 8.

Fixtures – Sunday, June 25 – SWF Highlands and Islands League Cup, semi-finals: Buckie Ladies v Nairn Ladies; Caithness v Sutherland (Castletown, 2pm).
