Unbeaten record for Crown ladies.

THE Crown Bar ladies have made a magnificent start to the season with four wins from four – but can they keep it up, especially with the Francis Street Club stilling playing brilliantly?

Cath Begg was the Crown’s star as she took out 126 (60, 60, 6) along with a lot of ton-plus scores as she helped the Crown win away to Queen’s. Kirsty Coghill (Queen’s) won her singles tie to remain unbeaten.

The FSC won at Harper’s with Sharon Swanson and Carol Sutherland best for the visitors while birthday girl Lisa Ross, the Harper’s captain, beat Sandra Nicolson 2-0 – a very rare loss by last season’s player of the year.

Elsewhere there were victories for the Smiddy Inn and Seaview – Irene Macgregor (Seaview) hit seven ton-plus scores for the John O’Groats side.

In the second division there were wins for leaders Comm "A" and second-placed Norseman "2" while William Crowe jnr (Smiddy "2") kept his 100 per cent singles record intact.

Surprise of the night was Sandy Mackay’s Norseman "3" defeating Seaview "B" while the Blackstairs won at home to the Smiddy Inn.

In division one the Legion have recruited John Macphee and boy did he play well after a long lay-off and numerous issues with his health he narrowly lost to Andrew Henderson (FSC) 2-3. He did acquit himself well in the pairs along with Mark Thain.

Michael Campbell ended Richie Taylor’s unbeaten 18-game run with a 3-0 win in this game. The Norseman thumped Queen’s who remain second despite this defeat.

Lybster side Comm "B" notched up their first point away to the Seaview.

Leaders Harper’s look almost unbeatable as they had a workmanlike win over Castletown – Angus Ross and Nicky Denoon were the top men.

A weakened Brown Trout edged a win away to the Camps. Camps player George Smith won his fourth consecutive singles with the same scoreline as the previous three, 3-2 – this time he just got the better of Davy Coghill.
