Craig McLachlan followed up his British Cup surfing triumph in Wales with another winning performance in the Scottish junior national championships in Fraserburgh at the weekend.

The 17-year-old from Murkle won the under-18 boys' category at the Scottish Surfing Federation (SSF) competition hosted by Broch Surf Club on Saturday.

It came a week after Craig took the British Cup U18 boys' title at Llantwit Major beach, where he finished fourth in the men's open contest.

"It was great to win the nationals so soon after the British," Craig said. "It's always a good feeling to be on a roll with competitions.

"The conditions were quite challenging and small, but I've been practising a lot in small waves recently so it felt quite natural to surf them.

"The weather was great and everyone helping out with the competition did a great job, so it ran smoothly."

Craig was part of a strong contingent from Thurso-based North Shore Surf Club at Fraserburgh.

Skye Brock was also a winner, taking the under-10 girls' championship.

Voe Brock was third in the under-14 girls, while there were fourth-place finishes for Olivia Sutherland (U12 girls) and Olivia Mackay (U16 girls).

It was event four in the 2022 SSF Junior Series. The last competition in the series is at Sandend on October 22-23.
