The weekend saw both the ladies' and gents' sections competing for the February Medal in their respective sections over a breezy Reay links.

The ladies’ competition was won convincingly by Eilidh Paterson after an excellent round of 97 for nett 70.

Eilidh is one of the many golfers who returned to the sport during lockdown, inspired by some of the "come and try" sessions run by the club, and her halves of 48 and 49 were good enough to secure the silverware.

Runner-up was Carol Paterson, finishing three strokes behind daughter Eilidh, after carding a round of 83 for nett 73. It was a real round of two halves for Carol, after an outward 44 was followed by a blistering inward 39 that included a birdie at the 13th hole.

Pam Bain also managed a birdie, at the ninth hole, on her way to a round of 84 for nett 74 and third place. Alison Ross was edged into fourth place on countback after she also posted a nett 74, with Carole Cameron taking fifth place on nett 77.

The gents’ medal was a tight affair, with Simon Harper recovering from a shaky start to win on countback with a score of nett 67. After an outward half of 41, Harper roared home in 35 with birdies at the 14th and 16th helping him to his winning score.

Ian Ross produced a steady round of 77, made up of halves of 40 and 37, for nett 67 and second place.

Wayne Mowat continued his good winter form to post a round of 76 for nett 68 and third place, with a birdie at the 17th helping him along the way.

Mike Halliday took fourth place, also on nett 68, after a round of 87 made up of halves of 43 and 44. David Mackay finished a stroke further back after a round of 82 gave him a nett 69.

In round 14 of the gents' Winter League Stableford, Evan Sutherland finished on the top of the pile with an excellent score of 42 points following a round of 72 made up of halves of 37 and 35. A birdie at the sixth was the highlight of his round.

John Nicolson and Kenny Farmer Jnr finished joint second on 40 points, with Simon Harper fourth on 37 and Bruce Mackay fifth on 36 points.

In the overall standings Kenny Farmer Jnr remains the man to beat on a six-round aggregate score of 230, ahead of Cammie Ross on 213 and David R Craig on 206.

This weekend sees the gents competing in the fifth round of the Winter Eclectic competition, while the ladies will be playing in the fifth round of the Winter Stableford.
