Cogill pair share fastest times accolade

The competition was fierce in ideal conditions with very close times and class records being broken.

The fastest time of the day (FTD) on Saturday went to George Coghill junior from Stemster, Halkirk, in his single-seater Force PT Turbo racing car.

Close behind in second was George Coghill senior, sharing the same car, and in third was Garry Dickson, driving his Force Blue Star, setting a new class record.

On Sunday the results changed, with George Coghill snr taking FTD with Dickson second and Coghill jnr third.

There were two first-time young drivers who shone all weekend – Louise Calder (18) from Thurso and Danny Dickson (16) from Bower were third and fourth both days in a very strong class of 10 racing cars.

Jody Gordon had a great run on Saturday, winning his class and breaking the class record by two seconds in his Peugeot 205. He finished second behind Gary Buchan on the Sunday.

Lenny Bray had a great weekend, winning both days in a strong class driving his F27 Clubman. Bill Lambie senior was second to Lenny, driving his Westfield Megabusa.

In class B5 Len Humphries had two good performances, winning both days, with David Humphries taking second place both days in their shared Dutton Pheaton.

In Class C6, Jennifer Bremner was leading the way, winning both days in her Radical Prosport Turbo, with Lindy Lochart taking second on Saturday and third on Sunday.

Class C4 was the biggest class with four of the 10 drivers coming from Caithness. Gary Dickson was first both days, Louise Calder was third both days, Danny Dickson was fourth both days and Stuart Brown was fifth on Saturday.

The third class record broken over the weekend was by Sandy Coghill from Bower in his Rover 200, winning class A2.

* Kames Motorsport Complex, Ayrshire, was the venue for rounds three and four of the Scottish Sprint Championship two weeks ago where Caithness drivers won FTD both days.

Colin Calder, Thurso, won on the Saturday with his 3.5l Gould racing car and George Coghill, Stemster, won on the Sunday in his Force PT Turbo. Louise Calder won her class C4 on Sunday and gained second overall FTD to George.

Bray was third on Saturday and first on Sunday in class B4, Bill Lambie jnr won that class on Saturday and was second on Sunday.

Bremner won the sports car class both days and Dougie Brown was second in class C4 with Heather Calder coming fifth in the same class.
