Wick Golf Club recently held its Championship Finals games, with the Seniors club championship final being contested by Alan Farquhar and Ali McDonald.

Alan had beaten Graham Hay in the semi-final and was keen to add to his seniors strokeplay win last year. Ali had to overcome Sinclair MacDonald in the quarter-final and last year's champion Peter Taylor in the semi-final.

Alan received seven strokes and Ali must have thought it would be hard night when Alan started with two pars. Alan got to four-up but Ali won the ninth to turn three-down.

Alan returned the momentum, utilising his stroke at the tenth to go four-up, before a good par at 11 got Ali back to three-down.

Alan set up the win with a par at the 13th and delivered with a great birdie two at the 14th to complete a 5&4 win.

The Handicap final was contested by Allan Bruce and Colin Davidson.

Allan had beaten James Harrold and Forbes Sinclair, who himself had knocked out strokeplay winner Bruce Foubister Jnr to prevail to the final. Colin had come through against Sanders Harper and Mark Mackay in the semi-final.

Colin started solidly to be one-up through two, however Allan then turned the screw, utilising his strokes into tough wind to go two-up.

He gained another at 10 to go three-up, but Colin got back to two-down with a good par at 12 only for Allan to use his strokes well with nett birdies at 13 and 15 to finish the match 4&3 winner.

The Scratch final was contested by top seeds Nicky Klimas and Alan Larnach.

Nicky had made his way to final beating Russel Angus and last year's runner-up Alan Forbes in the semi-final.

Alan got through beating Ian Thomson, who himself was Seniors strokeplay winner, but as always qualified for scratch section due to his continued great play. Alan then beat Davie Nicolson in the semi-final.

First to gain the upper hand was Alan, taking advantage of Nicky’s loose shot at the second, but a good par at the tough fourth got Nicky back on terms.

Nicky went one-up at the seventh only for Alan to square the match with great birdie at eight.

Nicky must have thought he would turn one-up but Alan produced an amazing par out of the burn at the ninth, leaving it all square with everything to play for as a strong wind got up.

Nicky was first to move ahead at 11, only for Alan to hole a good birdie putt at 12 with Nicky in close and duly missed.

Alan went one-up at 14 only for Nicky to square the match again at 15 to set up a tense finish. Both players hit good shots into 17 with Nicky holing his birdie putt to go one-up.

Good drives down the last set up chances with Nicky holing his birdie putt to complete a two-up win.

The club wishes to thank referees Aly, Gary and Sanders.
