Castle cup romance blossoms with upset

THE romance of the cup is still very much alive as second division Castletown sprung yet another upset to book their place in the Colin Macleod Memorial Cup.
After disposing of Thurso Acks in the quarter-finals, Castletown took another Thurso scalp – in the form of Swifts – to set up a cup final clash with Staxigoe United.
David McGill and Conor MacIntosh were on target for Castletown in a 2-1 victory at Back Park with Steve Morris replying for Thurso Swifts.
Staxigoe meanwhile
saw off Division Two side Wick Thistle 4-1 at Upper Bignold.
Kyle Henderson, Gordy MacNab, Martin Banks and Sam Barclay netted for United to book their place in the final while Thistle’s consolation came from Ross Macleod.
In Division Two, FC Retro took over at the top on goal difference thanks to a 5-1 win over Top Joes. Tony Miller’s hat-trick sent them on their way with other strikes coming from an own goal and Craig Nicholson. An own goal was Top Joes’ consolation.
Castletown are second after their 3-2 at High Ormlie Hotspur thanks to goals from Michael Smith (2) and Chris Sutherland. Hotspur’s strikes came via Kevin treasurer and Korbyn Cameron.
Wick Thistle bounced back from their cup exit with a thumping 7-0 win away at Francis Street Club. Andy Falconer (2), Ross Macleod (2), Colin Henstridge, Steven Reid and an own goal did the damage.
Goals from Darryn Mackay and Lee Elder gave Thurso Pentland a 2-0 win at Keiss.
