The Seaforth Highlanders' Club hosted the Ray Sinclair memorial event known as the Wick Cup of Darts, with Smiddy "2" pair Ryan Campbell and Jordan Oag retaining the trophy.

This is a unique event as it is pairs but with a difference. Each duo go head-to-head with their opponents in a singles format and, if level, pairs come into effect.

It attracted the best turnout in two seasons, which was encouraging for the Wick and District Darts League officials.

Seventeen-year-old Campbell now leads the maximum table with 11. He also hit his seventh ton-plus outshot.

Campbell's tally of three 16-dart legs was not bettered on the night but Oag was equally effective and proved to be his motivator.

In the final they beat Queen's duo Adam Green and David Simpson 2-1 – indeed the Queen's duo needed only 16 for a 2-0 pairs win, but it was not to be as Oag pegged them back.

Their run to the final was against Logan Moodie and Michael Sinclair (Smiddy "3"), 2-0; Steven Nicolson and David Taylor (Harper's "B"), 2-0; Martin Nicolson and Ryan Campbell (Seaforth), 2-1; and Marc Macgregor and Danny Hughes (Seaview), 2-1.

The Queen's duo saw off a gallant bid from Morgan Perry and Alison Tait (Seaforth ladies) and Chris Scott and Eann Ronaldson on their way to the final.

Ray's son and grandson, Gary and Craig, were in attendance and presented the awards.

Maximums: Ryan Campbell (Smiddy "2"), x4; Ryan Campbell (Seaforth), x2; Jordan Oag (Smiddy "2"), Willie McLean (Norseman) and Marc Macgregor (Seaview).

Ton-plus checkouts: Ryan Campbell (Smiddy "2"), 114; Saulius Kazakauskas (Norseman), 114; Aidan Sutherland (Norseman), 100.
