Up-and-coming Caithness driving talent was again on show at the Littleferry circuit near Golspie in the first event of the season held by North of Scotland Kart Club.

Darren Bain (13) from Wick made his debut in the Junior Rotax category, having stepped up from Honda Cadets after a successful season last year. He adapted extremely well to the bigger kart to secure third in class in Sunday’s final.

Watten’s Ian Campbell (11), competing at his home track for the first time since moving into the Inter Rotax class, drove well all weekend to secure first in class and achieved a new class lap record.

Eight-year-old Jack Elder from Dunbeath was also competing at his home venue for the first time since moving class to Micromax after a successful season in the Bambino category.

He held the upper hand in a tight battle for P1 and P2 over the weekend but took a comfortable first in class in the final following an incident between his rivals, allowing him breathing space to focus ahead.

Making his first competitive appearance, Thurso’s Finlay Calder (10) drove well all weekend to secure second in class and best novice in the Micromax class while setting steadily improving lap times.

Ian and Jack are back in action this weekend for round one of the Scottish Super Series held at Crail in Fife, while Darren is booked into round two of the Grampian Kart Club series held at Boyndie in two weeks’ time.

The next round hosted by NSKC at Littleferry will be on April 27/28.
