Caithness United's under-13s produced another excellent performance as they swept aside Do Soccer Academy, from Tain, 14-0 at Balintore’s Seaboard Park on Sunday.
It was their seventh win from seven games in this season's Moray Firth Youth Development League.
The Caithness youngsters controlled the tempo from the outset and pressed their counterparts deep into their own half for most of the match, which was played on a heavy, bobbly pitch and in damp, windy conditions.
Several well-worked goals were scored over the three periods of play, but the pick of the bunch were those by Jed Armitage and Owen Bain.
Jed’s began from a Caithness corner as an attempted clearance landed alongside him at the edge of the box. Ambitiously, Jed attempted an acrobatic scissors kick and he watched gleefully as it bulleted past everyone in front of him before making the net bulge.
The other contender for "goal of the game" was created on the right by Euan Kennedy. He stole the ball from his marker, then skilfully deceived two defenders before driving to the byline and delivering an inch-perfect cross to Owen Bain who was charging into the box in support.
Bain kept his eye on the ball as he executed a rocket of a left-foot volley past the helpless goalkeeper, Sean Fraser.
Caithness coach Alan Kennedy hailed the team's display as magnificent.
He said: “Going four goals up in the first period was great but the important thing for us was to ensure that the team remained focused, and maintained those levels right up until the final whistle. The quality of football we showed for the remainder of the match, the combination plays and our ruthlessness in front of goal, was extremely pleasing.
"I must also mention our goalie, Tom Armitage, who didn’t have much to do but still managed to produce an outstanding save to ensure the team kept a clean sheet.
"There were some superb performances from our squad but Owen Bain’s hat-trick, including two stunning goals, and his all-round creativity edged him past a few others as man of the match.
"This weekend we expect a sterner test against a well-drilled Clach side, and we are all really looking forward to the challenge.”
Scorers for Caithness United U13s against Do Soccer Academy were Morgan Kennedy (4), Owen Bain (3), Scott MacDonald (2), Euan Kennedy (2), Matthew Mackay, Matthew Robertson and Jed Armitage.
