Caithness United U16s extend unbeaten run after returning from eight-week lay-off
Caithness United under-16s extended their unbeaten run in the Highland Youth Development League with a 5-0 win against their Fort William counterparts.
Sunday's match at the Naver all-weather pitch was United's first after an eight-week lay-off spanning the Christmas period.
Lee Gordon scored twice, with the others coming from Scott Durrand, Owen Klimas and Josh Sutherland.
Caithness coach Ross Sutherland said: “Seeing as we’d not had a match in a couple of months, the boys were all really hungry for game time. They started the game brightly and on the front foot.
"That saw us forge a number of really good opportunities in the opening 30 minutes, but we were a bit sloppy in final third and failed to score through that period.
"This seemed to then lead to a degree of frustration and impatience in our build-up play. It looked like we were trying to force a killer ball too early, resulting in the play breaking down.

"Once we managed to open the scoring, the sense of relief was evident. The lads seemed to play with a lot less nervousness and a bit more freedom and direction, and the goals then started to come.
"It has been such a stop-start season so far for us, with a distinct lack of competitive matches, and that has definitely affected our game. But we now have a few things to work on and look forward to going back to regular weekly fixtures for the next two months at least, and hopefully we will produce the form we know we are capable of.”
