Caithness United took an under-11 team over the Pentland Firth to Kirkwall on Saturday to compete in an inter-county tournament hosted by Orkney’s youth development group. The tournament featured three Orkney teams and two from Shetland as well as the one team from Caithness.

After a relatively slow start the Caithness youngsters performed well, playing some great football and scoring 16 goals in their five matches, while Arran Bain in goal caught the eye with some super saves.

Caithness were runners-up overall, losing only one match, and beating the eventual winners Orkney Reds 5-3 in the process.

The Caithness squad consisted of Max Mackillop (East End), Jay Foubister (Thurso United), Stevie Esson (Thurso United), captain, Jayden Bremner (East End), Jed Armitage (Thurso United), Toby Sutherland (Castletown), Arran Bain (East End), Scott MacDonald (Thurso United), Jamie Steven (East End) and Josh Coghill (Halkirk).

Caithness scorers were Scott (5), Jed (3), Jay (3), Toby (2), Jamie (2) and Stevie.

Coaches Alan Kennedy and Stevie Bain were keen to compliment their team on their performance, saying it was particularly impressive given that this was the first time they had all played together. They also thanked Orkney for hosting a well-run tournament.
