Caithness United's under-12s have "done themselves proud" after impressing in their first two festivals this calendar year, held over consecutive Saturdays at the end of April.

One festival took place at Muir of Ord, run by Muir of Ord Rovers, and the other in Fortrose, hosted by Avoch Rovers.

The Caithness boys played superbly throughout both events, winning all their matches, scoring a lot of goals and conceding very few, while also playing some attractive football. Their performances drew some admiring comments from parents and opposition coaches alike.

“The results in both Alness and Fortrose were really pleasing," coach Murray Coghill said. "But at this age group in particular the results are secondary to making sure the players are showing progress both personally and as a team, while also developing a better understanding of the game itself.

"I can say that the entire under-12 coaching team of Craig Ross, Sean Moodie, Luke Bunch and myself were absolutely delighted with what we saw over the two weekends, and it’s a real credit to the boys themselves.

"It has been a tough winter for them, training weekly from November through to April in some extremely challenging conditions, with no festivals in sight. But they have consistently turned up to every session with smiles on their faces, listening carefully to the information being given, asking questions and providing answers when challenged.

"It’s also really satisfying as a coach to see the routines we’ve spent so much time working on being put into practice on the pitch in the games. The boys have done themselves proud.

"I’m sure we will see further development from them throughout the summer festival season too, and we can’t wait for the next one.”
