The Greens will be bidding to get their ledger in the black when they travel to Clackmannanshire on Saturday for the return joust with Hillfoots.

Caithness sit in the middle of Caley One, having won three, lost three and drawn one.

They ran in five tries to prevail 27–12 in the fiercely contested home fixture in September.

Greens coach Kenny Russell knows his men will have to be firing on all cylinders to complete the double.

“They have a big, strong pack who have several very strong ball carriers,” he said.

“We’re going to have to be on our toes defensively to contain these guys.

“But we should have a pretty decent squad and I’m hoping we can build on the momentum from our last game (a 34–29 win over Aberdeenshire).”

Russell said the squad has since trained well on Wick High’s artificial pitch but will have to quickly switch back into game mode after two blank Saturdays.

A clutch of Second XV graduates starred in the win over ‘Shire and Russell welcomes the increased competition that has created in several positions.

The back division will be strengthened by the return of Stuart Crighton, Scott Webster, Douglas Webster and Euan MacDonald while Kevin Brims is also expected to be restored in the second row.

Skipper Marc Anderson’s injury hex has struck again, though, and he will likely miss out with a groin issue while flanker Max Kennedy faces a late fitness test. In the second row Kevin Budge is still out and Tom Storey is unavailable as his partner is expecting any day.
