A HEALTHY audience recently attended Thurso Squash Club to watch the county’s top players in the opening tie of the Caithness versus Orkney intercounty match.

Unfortunately for Orkney and which must be a first, they were unable to produce any lady competitors for this tie, allowing Caithness to begin with 3-0 leads in both "A" and "B" matches.

The Caithness "B" team fire power proved too much for Orkney and they go into the return leg with an 8-0 unassailable lead.

Orkney provided tougher opposition in the "A" match with a series of close encounters but Caithness pulled away to win 7-1.

Donald Pollard, Caithness, provided a gutsy performance to come back from two sets to nil down and win versus Sean Tait, Orkney, and give the crowd the match of the day.

Caithness will hopefully be playing the second round of this tie in the new state-of-the-art Orkney squash courts which are currently being developed at the Pickaquoy Centre, Kirkwall.
