Caithness take six golds at north meet

This is the main regional championships in the north track and field season which sees stiff competition coming from Orkney, Shetland and Stornoway as well as all the north and north-east mainland clubs.

Among the medals was under-14 Stephanie Eyers who won gold in the javelin and shot putt and silver in the discus, with personal best (PB) performances in all.

Under-14 Stuart Kirk won silver in the 80m hurdles with a PB and he also recorded PBs in his 800m and shot putt. Under-16 Imhotep Booth took gold in the 100m hurdles with a PB and silver in the triple jump and also recorded a PB in his long jump.

Under-18 Joseph Frame won gold in the 800m and a bronze in his long jump with a PB.

Sarah Henderson, competing in the under-18 section, won gold in the 200m and 300m with a PB in the latter.

There was silver for under-20 Shannon Eyers in the javelin, while Andrew Raeburn struck gold in the senior men’s 400m.

The haul placed Caithness fourth behind Inverness, Orkney and Moray Road Runners on the medals table out of 18 clubs.

There were also PBs from Lucy McIntosh in the 100m and shot putt and Conor Hendry in his 100m and 200m. Rhiannon Kirk also gained a PB in her 1500m and Alexander Macleod in his long jump. Robert Thomson had PBs in all his three events.

The Caithness results were:

Girls: Under-14 – Stephanie Eyers – javelin 1st 22.88 metres (PB); shot putt 1st 8.07m (PB); discus 2nd 18.29m (PB).

Lucy McIntosh – 100m heat 3rd 15.86 (PB); shot putt 4th 6.43m (PB); long jump 9th 3.24m.

Kim Johnston – high jump 5th 1.10m; 75m hurdles 4th 17.64; 800m 9th 3:13.95.

Erin Britton – 75m hurdles 5th 17.86; high jump 6th 1.10m.

Under-16 – Rhiannon Kirk 1500m 5th 5:20.37 (PB); 200m 6th 31.57; long jump 8th 3.70m.

Kaitlyn Reid – 100m 8th heat 15.61; high jump 8th 1.25m; discus 5th 12.07m.

Women: Under-18 – Sarah Henderson – 200m 1st 27.32; 300m 1st 42.96 (PB).

Under-20 – Shannon Eyers – javelin 2nd 31.19m.

Boys: Under-14 – Conor Hendry – 100m final 8th 15.34 (PB); 200m heat 5th 32.20 (PB).

Stuart Kirk – 800m final 4th 2:39.66 (PB); 80m hurdles 2nd 16.55 (PB); shot putt 5th 6.19m (PB).

Under 16 – Imhotep Booth – 100m hurdles – 1st 18.72m (PB). Long jump – 4th 4.81m (PB); triple jump 2nd 9.73m.

Robert Thompson – 100m heat 6th 16.69 (PB); 800m 10th 2:54.66 (PB); long jump 9th 3.23m (PB).

Alexander MacLeod – 800m 9th 2:41.01; long jump 7th 4.06m (PB).

Men: under 18 – Joseph Frame – 100m 7th 14.44; 800m 2:52.38; long jump 3rd 4.11m (PB).

Senior – Mark Hendry – 100m 5th 14.17. Andrew Raeburn – 400m 1st 49.13.
