In-form Caithness Ladies moved to within three points of leaders Buckie with a 6-1 victory over Clachnacuddin in the SWF Highlands and Islands League.

Sunday’s match was played in warm conditions at Evanton. Shannon Campbell scored twice for Caithness, with the others coming from Carly Erridge, Anna Foubister, Rona Taylor and an own goal.

Caithness Ladies have picked up 15 points from their first seven league fixtures after five wins and two defeats. Buckie are on 18 points with a game in hand.

Caithness now have a couple of weeks off before their next match.

Wick Academy’s first pre-season friendly ended in a 2-1 victory over an Orkney select in the annual Ken Green Challenge Cup match.

The Scorries’ squad for Saturday’s game at Dounby had an average age of 20, with eight teenagers on the pitch at one point.

Louis Hancock put Academy ahead just after the hour mark. Owen Young equalised at the start of the second half but Brandon Sinclair got a late winner for Wick.

Academy’s next pre-season game, against Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s under-19s, has been brought forward to Friday, July 4, with 7.30pm kick-off.

The venue has yet to be confirmed but it is likely to be the Upper Bignold Park.
