Caithness Ladies lose out on last day as Ross County clinch title
Caithness Ladies’ SWF Highlands and Islands League campaign ended with a 6-1 defeat to Sutherland on the day Buckie were deposed as champions by Ross County’s development side.
A goal by Reese Flaws gave the Dingwall women a 1-0 victory over Buckie at the Highland Football Academy.
Going into that game, each side knew that if they won the 2024 title would be theirs – but a draw could open the door for Sutherland to leapfrog both teams if they could beat Caithness.
Sutherland did their job, winning 6-1 in Helmsdale after falling behind to an own goal, but it was in vain as County picked up the three points they needed.
Buckie had claimed the Highlands and Islands League Cup for the third time in a row the previous weekend.
Caithness dropped to fifth in the table as a result of Orkney’s 3-0 victory over Clachnacuddin.
Caithness could take some consolation from the knowledge that they were responsible for one of only two league defeats suffered by Ross County this season. When the teams met at Back Park in Castletown at the end of June, Caithness ran out 5-2 winners.
Meanwhile, SWF has announced a new partnership with RJM Sports and German manufacturer Uhlsport to provide match and training balls to all its member clubs’ senior teams.
Under the new three-year deal, RJM Sports becomes the official ball and trophy supplier to Scottish Women’s Football. Uhlsport becomes the chosen manufacturer to fulfil the agreement.
RJM Sports will also provide trophies/medals, ribbons and staff kit for the SWF staff and board.
The tie-up with RJM Sports will also see SWF clubs receive a discount for further purchases on kit, equipment and trophies/medals.
SWF chief executive Aileen Campbell said: “At Scottish Women’s Football we are acutely aware of the rising costs for clubs and this exciting new partnership allows us to provide Uhlsport quality match balls and training balls to every single team in our senior leagues.
“Our thanks go to Robert Marshall at RJM Sports and to Brian Hutchinson of Uhlsport for providing us with a fantastic service and for their commitment to supporting the grassroots women’s game in this way.”
