Caithness Kuk Sool Won instructor proud of her students after Scottish tournament

Students from Kuk Sool Won of Caithness travelled to Bathgate in West Lothian for the annual Scottish tournament and national testings.

More than 300 students took part, from all over Scotland, as well as from schools in England and Germany.

The Caithness school has been teaching the Korean martial arts system since 1990 and currently has 36 students, aged from four years to over 60.

Results for Caithness: Katherine McLean, 3rd Dahn 18 and over, fourth for joint lock techniques; Alan Frame, 1st Dahn 13-17 age group, fourth staff; Ellis Macdonald, 1st Dahn 13-17, third sparring.

Markus Pinzariu, 1st Dahn 12 and under, second sparring, fourth staff; Chloe Craigie, brown-black 5+ stripes 13-17 years, fourth techniques; Calder Macdonald, brown-black 5+ stripes nine to 12 years, first sparring, fourth techniques.

Logan Craigie, brown-black belt 5+ stripes nine to 12, fourth for staff; Adam Macdonald, brown-black 4 stripes and under nine to 12 years, third forms, fourth techniques, third sparring; Maria Pinzariu, brown-black 4 stripes and under nine to 12, second staff, third techniques, fourth sparring.

Promotions: Stephen Frame, Aaron Wilson and Alan Frame promoted to 2nd Dahn; Steven Craigie, Chloe Craigie, Logan Craigie, Calder Macdonald, Rory Simmons, Jessica Farquhar and Scott Farquhar all promoted to 1st Dahn.

Ellis Macdonald and Markus Pinzariu did first test towards 2nd Dahn, while Adam Macdonald, Amber Farquhar and Maria Pinzariu did first test towards 1st Dahn.

Their instructor, 5th Dahn Cathy Smith, said: "I am really proud of all my students. They were amazing – to go through a tough grading in the morning and go on to compete in the afternoon showed how dedicated they are."
