Caithness cyclists down on their best times in windy conditions

Alistair Miller was again the fastest in Caithness Cycling Club’s weekly 10-mile time trial but a strong southerly wind resulted in most riders being around a minute down on their best this year.

The one exception was Lorna Stanger, just 29 seconds down, to take the maximum of six points in the Handicap League. With only three weeks remaining, the competition for medals is still on a knife edge.

Times: 1 Alistair Miller, 26 min 17 sec; 2 Lorna Stanger, 27.40; 3 Roger Broughton, 27.42; 4 Alasdair Washington, 30.02; 5 Martine Hughes (road bike), 34.09.

Handicap League: 1 Alistair Miller (48.5 points); 2 Roger Broughton (48); 3 Lorna Stanger (39.5); 4 Martine Hughes (39); 5 Stuart Swanson (37); 6 Gary Angus (36).

Last Thursday saw a rare occurrence for Wick Wheelers – as many officials as riders. A starter/timekeeper and a turn marshal matched the two cyclists.

Danny Miller and Lisa Coghill both rode well to be just outside their best times this season.

Times: 1 Danny Miller, 23 min 12 sec; 2 Lisa Coghill, 31.14.
