Caithness Cycling Club rider Alasdair Washington travelled to Banchory for the Drumoak 10-mile time trial, promoted by Aberdeen Wheelers.

With little wind and a potentially fast course, good times were expected, but the 86-year-old Thurso rider found the temperature of only 7C too cold and his time of 28 min 35 sec was over a minute behind his best Caithness time of the year.

Race winner Kyle Gordon (RT23) from Dingwall, one of Scotland’s leading riders, stormed round at an average speed of 30.6 mph to clock a time of 19 min 36 sec. Second-placed Lee Rosie (Wheelbase Cabtech Castelli), originally from Thurso where his parents still live, put in a great performance to clock 20 min 20 sec, an average speed of 29.5 mph.

First lady was Margaret McMillan (Deeside Thistle) in 24 min 26 sec.

This was the last competitive event of the year for club members and the emphasis is now on more social rides around Caithness.
