Caithness Cycling Club’s weekly 10-mile time trial had again to be held on the relatively slow Westfield course due to traffic lights on the Watten road, and riders had to contend with a tough headwind on the outward leg.

First place went to Iain Miller, 19 seconds ahead of Alistair Miller, while Scott Phares continued his good form with third place, edging out Roger Broughton.

Scott, along with Martine Hughes, was on a “road bike”, which is a new category that excludes tri-bars and disc wheels, with the aim of attracting more people into the sport.

Iain Miller still heads the Handicap League with just four weeks remaining, but Gary Angus and Angus MacKay are well within striking distance, and competition for all the medals is still very open.

Results: 1 Iain Miller, 26 min 59 sec; 2 Alistair Miller, 27.18; 3 Scott Phares, 28.40; 4 Roger Broughton, 28.48; 5 Alasdair Washington, 29.41; 6 Martine Hughes, 36.00.

Handicap League: 1 Iain Miller (46.5 points); 2 Gary Angus (41); 3 Angus MacKay (36.5); 4 Martine Hughes (31); 5eq Alistair Miller and Alasdair Washington (29).
