Riders in week three of Caithness Cycling Club’s 10-mile time trial season had to endure temperatures as low as three degrees Celsius and a light snow shower – but this didn’t deter Andrew “Hamper” MacLeod, who powered round for a scintillating 21 min 41 sec, at an average speed of 27.7 mph.

A moderate north-east wind helped riders to the turn, then eased for the return, and six riders clocked their best times this year. They were led by Chris Gregory with a 72-second improvement, narrowly ahead of Angus MacKay (70 seconds) and Roger Broughton (67 seconds).

Results: 1 Andrew MacLeod, 21 min 41 sec; 2 Colin Earnshaw, 26.27; 3 Chris Gregory, 27.05; 4 Alistair Miller, 27.18; 5 Angus MacKay, 27.25; 6 Roger Broughton, 27.50; 7 Gary Angus, 30.02; 8 Phil Cartwright, 30.07.
