CAITHNESS athletes have been on a medal rush at the Special Olympics GB’s National Games with three athletes picking up gold medals with one silver and two bronze in Sheffield this week.

Clive Mappin and Shane Thompson both claimed gold in the standing long jump with Stuart Henderson also picking up gold in the 50 metre walk as well as winning bronze in the standing long jump.

In addition, Claire Madden and Daniel Mackay both picked up silver and bronze in boccia in what has been a successful games for the far north athletes.

The Games conclude on Saturday.
