CAITHNESS “A” badminton select are celebrating retaining the spoils in their annual tussle versus their counterparts from across the Pentland Firth.

Buoyed by a 7-5 win they carried forward from the match in Kirkwall in December, they clinched an overall victory 13-11 in the return leg in Thurso Games Hall after edging 2-1 wins in both level doubles and then securing the top two mixed contests.

The islanders gained some consolation by scoring a runaway 20-4 win in the ‘B’ fixture.

The Dunnet husband-and-wife pairing of Mark and Shona Mackay managed wins in both their level doubles and mixed matches. The only others to get wins in both were James Henderson and Carole Begg.

Trailing 9-3 from the Orkney leg, the Caithness cause was holed below the waterline after the level doubles were completed. The only home winners were at 1st ladies when Jane Grant and Marina Swanson won in two sets.
