County football chiefs have thrown a double whammy at Thurso Swifts for not fulfilling fixtures.

On May 7, Division One strugglers Swifts had been due to travel to Ham Park, the home of Pentland United, for a league fixture.

However, hours before kick-off, Swifts informed CAFA that due to a shortage in numbers they would be unable to cobble a team together.

A call that led to the match being postponed and with Swifts docked three points, fined £50 and told to cover the £40 referee's fee.

Pentland meanwhile have been awarded three points but, under the guidelines set out to the CAFA by the Scottish Amateur Football Association, they will not be awarded a generic winning scoreline which could be pivotal should the title race boil down to goal difference come the end of the season.

If the punishment Swifts received for this transgression was a blow to them, another sanction was just around the corner.

Today [May 21] Swifts had been due to make the journey to Upper Bignold – the home of Wick Groats – for their first round Eain Mackintosh Cup tie with the current league leaders.

But once again, Swifts have pulled out citing injuries to players and other team members being unable to get time off work to play.

In light of this, the CAFA has once again fined Swifts £50 and told them to cover the £40 referee's fee.

Swifts have also been kicked out of the Eain Mackintosh Cup with Wick Groats being given a bye into the next round.
