Busy start to new season for Wick Academy
WICK Academy will play three games in the first seven days of the 2014/15 Highland League season to coincide with the introduction of the new Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) pyramid system.
This year’s SHFL winners will have the opportunity to gain entry into the SPFL League Two system which, as a result, will force the regular Highland League season to finish earlier than usual.
Academy start their campaign at Harmsworth Park against Deveronvale on Saturday, August 2, and will welcome Clachnacuddin on Wednesday, August 6, before enjoying their first away game to Turriff United on Saturday, August 9.
The Scorries will play at least four midweek games during the campaign with their matches between Clachnacuddin and Nairn County scheduled for Wednesday nights.
However, the New Year derby week with Brora Rangers will remain scheduled to be played on Saturdays with the fixture being played at Dudgeon Park on Saturday, December 27, and at Harmsworth Park on Saturday, January 3.
The SHFL winners will face the champions of the Scottish Lowland Football League in a two-leg play-off, where the winner will then play another two-leg play-off against the club which finishes bottom of League Two to earn a place in next season’s fourth tier.
