Wick Academy midfielder Ryan Campbell has been ruled out of action for at least six weeks after suffering a broken wrist.

The injury came after he featured for the Scorries in the 4-1 defeat to Formartine United last weekend.

He is not expected to feature for Wick again until at least the end of January in a blow for Academy as they prepare to face Strathspey Thistle at Harmsworth Park tomorrow.

He is one of five players that will be missing for Saturday’s clash with Danny Mackay also unavailable and three long-term absentees, Alan Farquhar, Richard Macadie and Brandon Sinclair.

Manager Gary Manson said it was a huge blow to the club that Campbell will be missing for the Scorries over the next few weeks.

But he is also waiting to hear if more players will be missing for tomorrow’s clash.

“Ryan has unfortunately suffered a broken wrist so he will be out for at least six weeks,” Manson confirmed.

“We are also waiting to see if Jack Henry and Alan Hughes come through Thursday night’s training.

“They might be OK, but we will have to wait and see how they get on in training.”

Wick Academy will look to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat to Formartine United against Strathspey Thistle tomorrow.

The Scorries had been on good form previously with wins over Huntly and Forres Mechanics in their previous two matches.

While full of respect for Strathspey Thistle, Manson says this is a game where three points should be a realistic target.

“Every game we play we want three points, but certainly against teams who are below us in the table,” said Manson.

“Certainly it has all the ingredients of a game which we are looking to win as well as score a few goals and get back on track.

“Before Formartine, we had two wins on the bounce and had a clean sheet as well for good measure.

“It was two good performances, but the 4-1 defeat last week flattered Formartine.

“The first half there was nothing between the teams and it looked like it would be 0-0 at half time.

“Then they got a goal out of the blue and it knocked the stuffing out of us.

“But it wasn’t a 4-1 game by any stretch of the imagination and we are still all high in the camp. We will go into this Saturday with confidence and looking for a win.” Liam Bain made his first team debut last week after Alan Hughes suffered a knock in the warm-up 10 minutes before kick-off, and Manson says he could feature again tomorrow.
