MEMBERS of Halkirk Smallbore Rifle Club are delighted to have been able to carry out some much-needed improvements to their indoor range, thanks to a grant of almost £7000 from Halkirk District Benefit Fund. The cash injection was also used to purchase new club equipment, mainly for the current and future crop of junior and beginner members.

Club president Robbie Campbell said: "We are absolutely delighted to receive this backing from the fund as it has allowed us to improve the conditions on the firing point and the target area lighting, both of which were long overdue.

"We have also been able to purchase two new rifles along with a range of new jackets and other items which will significantly help the development of our junior members."

Also acquired has been an electronic training system for target shooting which will be used by all club members to assist them in identifying and correcting weaknesses in their technique.

Said Mr Campbell: "This will be valuable in helping our members improve standards and subsequently achieve a greater level of success in both local and national level competitions.

"We hope that with a more comfortable shooting environment and a much improved range of equipment, the club will prosper and regularly attract and retain new members for the years ahead."

The fund manages and distributes the annual contributions RWE Npower Renewables makes from the proceeds of the Causewaymire wind farm.
