Reay Golf Club is bringing back its free 'come and try' golf sessions, which it says have been successful in attracting new golfers to the sport.

One of the club's beginners, Nicola Campbell, said she had always enjoyed watching the sport on TV but didn't know where to start.

She said: "I was slightly apprehensive about starting but I needn’t have been as everyone was so friendly and inviting. From the very first night, I absolutely loved it.

"The come and try sessions were great – it was all about learning how to play golf and enjoying yourself. Most nights, I would be out in the garden at home trying to practice my pitching.

"Once we had completed the sessions, we were then invited to play on a Thursday night with the other non-handicap and beginner ladies, where we had the opportunity to take part in nine-hole competitions.

"I noticed a big difference over the weeks in my playing and kept trying to improve my scores."

Carol Paterson, from the club's ladies management group, said: “With the nights stretching and the weather improving, it’s the best time to start. It gives beginner’s a chance to get coached the basics correctly, meet up with other beginner’s and have some fun out on the course.

"Our last two years' come and try have been successful and we’d like to continue this. Golf is a great sport, it gets you out in the fresh air and gives you the opportunity to meet so many other people.”

Those interested or anybody who has questions is invited to email inforeay@gmail.com or contact the club via its social media pages.
