Mike Windsor made it two wins on successive Saturdays as he lifted the Gary Youngson Wealth Management sponsored Allan Cup gents' handicap singles at Thurso Bowling Club.

Mike, with a four handicap, had seen off some experienced players on his way to the semi-finals where he overcame Billy Sinclair (six handicap) by 21 shots to 16.

His opponent in the final would be Alec MacKay (one handicap), who was on scintillating form against Douglas Morrison (scratch) in his semi, running out an easy winner by 21-6.

Mike made the most of his four-shot start in the final and quickly opened up a 14-4 lead but Alec started showing some of his semi-final form to lead 18-16. Mike was not to be denied, though, and picked the five shots he needed over the next three ends to claim the trophy.

Jillian Tewnion, Marina Bain and Lorna Cormack returned from Invergordon empty-handed in their bid to win the Northern Counties ladies' triples. After winning their first game 22-0 the Thurso girls lost out in the next round to a trio from Nairn by the odd shot.

Thurso’s first outing in this season's Scottish qualifiers was on Sunday when Lynne Swanson and Alan Morrison travelled to Brora in the mixed pairs to play the Tain St Duthus duo and came back with a 21-9 victory.

This Saturday will see the Highland triples competition take place with the draw posted on the board.
