Ali and John keep up their good form in Thurso 2-4-2 final





Thurso Bowling Club held its 2-4-2 pairs, sponsored by Henderson Opticians, last Saturday. The semi-finals saw Ali Gray and John Harris defeat Fiona MacLeod and Stephen Rollinson by 17 shots to five while Kay Rosie and Danny Taylor prevailed over Liz and Derek Rhodes by nine shots to four.

Ali and John kept up their good form in the final and ran out comfortable winners over Kay and Danny by a scoreline of 17-2.

Thurso’s men’s representatives in the Northern Counties Championships were back in action last Thursday and had mixed fortunes.

The senior four of Hugh Crowden, Bob Bell, Davie Kemp and Ali Gray lost out their opponents from Invergordon. John McGill also fell, going down to the Inverness Planefield singles.

There was better news for the pair of Ryan Watt and Ross Cowan and last year’s rinks champions Scott Christie, Colin Christie, Henny Henderson and Alan Morrison, who have reached the finals day at the St Duthus Bowling Club in Tain.

On Sunday Thurso hosted the County Pairs finals with Brian and Lorna Cormack securing the second county title for Thurso.

This weekend sees Chelsea Bain represent Scotland in the under-25 international series and also the national finals get under way on Sunday at the National Centre for Bowling in Ayr. This will see Lorna and Brian Cormack in the mixed pairs, Chelsea Bain double up in the junior and ladies’ singles, Jillian Tewnion and Lorna Cormack in the ladies’ pairs and the ladies’ rink of Liz Rhodes, Pam Barney, Cath Irons and Lynne Swanson all competing.

Domestically the single sets title will be contested on Saturday.
