A TOTAL of 46 players turned out for Thurso Bowling Club’s first competition of the year, the Andy Campbell Mixed Rinks. The favourable weather resulted in some excellent bowling over the day.

The semi-finals began with a victory for Helen Smith, Paul Watson, Ryan Watt and Alec MacKay over Betty MacDonald, Alan Doull, Euan Morrison and Ross Cowan. The second semi was a very close affair with both teams tied on 10 shots apiece going into the last end but Lily Wilson, Ali Gray, Colin Floydd and Stephen Rollinson picked up the decisive shot to progress to the final at the expense of Leah Taylor, David Kemp, Cath Irons and Jack Johnstone.

After 12 ends of the final the teams were level on 10 shots but Alec and company secured the last three ends to lift the first trophy of the 2019 season.

Chelsea Bain has been rewarded for her good form from last season with a Scottish ladies' under-25 team trial at Northfield Bowling Club, Ayr, on June 22.

This Saturday sees the Club Pairs title decided and all players are reminded to report to the green by 9am for the draw.
