There was an excellent turnout for the gents' Allan Cup competition at Thurso Bowling Club on May 7, with Alec Mackay staging a comeback to beat John McGill in the final.
John took control and at 19 shots to 12 up he seemed set to seal the deal, lying two shots for the game. However, Alec had one last bowl which he used to his advantage and won the end, stopping John in his tracks.
Alec went on to win 21-19.
Gents' captain Henny Henderson said: "Everyone enjoyed themselves, the atmosphere was great, and long may it continue throughout the season."
The following Saturday (May 14) saw another good turnout for the Pairs League, with three leagues of six teams playing a round-robin format.
The winning team from each league and the best overall runners-up went into the final league of four.
The players produced excellent bowls over the course of the day and the weather was fine, which helped.
The final league games were played in good spirit with the overall runners up beating everyone.
Winners were Ali Gray and Stephen Rollinson, while the runners-up were Douglas Morrison and Linda Morrison.
Players and spectators were kept well fed by Kay Rosie, the club's catering convener, and her team of helpers, while bar manager Douglas Morrison and his helpers made sure no-one went thirsty.
The Pairs League was sponsored by Henderson opticians.
Last Sunday saw the first of the Scottish district ties being played. Thurso's mixed pairs representatives, Marina Bain and Henny Henderson, were beaten on their trip to Golspie.
This week the club has more representatives starting their quest to make the district finals.
They are Davy Alexander, Davy Kemp, Bob Bell and Ali Gray (gents' senior fours); Douglas Morrison and Brian Tewnion, Stephen Rollinson and Allan Swanson (gents' pairs); and Janet Sinclair and Douglas Morrison (mixed pairs).
