THURSO Bowling Club held its annual Ivy Macleod Memorial Open Triples sponsored by Belhaven Brewery last Saturday.

After a long day's bowling, due to a couple of late call-offs, the semi-final line-ups were completed. These saw wins for Jillian Tewnion, Bob Bell and Charlie Smith over Maddison Morrison, Scott Bain (Lybster) and Judy Mowat, and for Betty MacDonald, Janet Sinclair and Alan Morrison over Ali Gray, Henny Henderson and Mike Windsor.

Alan and his team started the final well and took control of the game with a seven on the seventh end and eventually ran out 17-8 winners. A number of Ivy’s family were present during the day and and thoroughly enjoyed the event.

There is no action on the green this weekend but Thurso bowlers will be busy further afield as the ladies' Top Ten team travel to Invergordon take play their Moray counterparts in the inter-district final. The winner of this tie then travels to Northfield, Ayr, to compete in the national finals.

The remaining men’s representatives, Liam MacKay and Ryan Watt in the pairs and defending champions Scott Christie, Colin Christie, Henny Henderson and Alan Morrison in the rinks, make the slightly shorter trip to Tain on Sunday to play the final stages of this season's Northern Counties championships.

Thurso picked up their third county trophy of the season when Ryan Watt, Karl Paterson, Ross Cowan and Scott Christie took home the county rinks title.
