Added time leads to cup heartache for Vikings
Thurso's Jock Mackay Memorial Cup hopes for this season came to an end after eight minutes of injury time allowed Orkney to rack up a 4-1 win.
While the scoreline on its own looks as if Stevie Reid's Vikings were well beaten, the game was level pegging at 1-1 with extra time on the horizon.
Liam Delday had given Orkney the lead but Thurso battled back to equalise through Cameron Montgomery just after the hour mark.
With two minutes of normal time left, Graeme Horne stabbed in a second for the islanders and, while Thurso threw everyone forward, Joe Wilson and James Pickles added to Orkney's tally in the sixth and eighth minutes of added time respectively.
Thurso boss Reid said: "I really don't know where the referee got all that injury time from, to be honest. I never made it eight minutes, that's for sure.
"It might have given us a few extra minutes to try and get an equaliser but even so... Especially when their third goal went in, he might as well have blown up there and then.
"Orkney deserve to go through to the semi-finals but the scoreline did flatter them. In fact we had a great chance to level right after they got their second and I don't think there could have been any complaints had we taken the game to extra time."
Thurso still top the North Caledonian League table but find their lead cut to three points after wins for last season's runners-up Invergordon and also St Duthus.
