Thurso Acks player-manager Kyle Innes is keen to ensure that his squad do not become complacent ahead of a run-in of “cup finals” to round off the season.

Acks take a slender lead into the second leg of their Steven Cup semi-final against Thurso Pentland tonight, with goals from John Hooker and Andrew Hardwick proving enough to secure a 2-1 win in the first leg on Thursday.

Innes said: “We go into this week the second leg of the Steven Cup semi-final in the lead, however its a tie that’s far from won. We have to ensure that complacency doesn’t set in against a young and enthusiastic Pentlands team.

“We need to maintain a good standard, not only for seeing the semi final through, but seeing us through the reminder of the season. We have to consider every game to be a cup final from now on.

“Together as a unit, we have put the club into a position to fight not just for the league but for the cup as well, which we have the potential to win. Every player has played a big part in our performances this year.

“We have three very tough league games left, which we need to really win to achieve a top two finish. I am confident if we can maintain a standard we are capable of winning our remaining games.”

Pentlands opened the scoring in the first half of the first leg thanks to the persistence of Liam Semple, who beat the defence before nicking the ball past goalkeeper Jack Ross and slotting home.

Acks found their way back into the game ten minutes later when a Graham Bremner ball across goal was fired over the line from close range by Hooker.

The game was won in the second half when a ball broke to Hardwick inside the box, and the defender fired across goal to find the far corner of the net.

Thurso Pentland and Acks will meet at the Dammies in the Steven Cup semi-final second leg tonight, with a 7pm kick off.
