Wick Academy have strengthened their defensive options by signing Colin MacRae on a loan deal from Brora Rangers until the end of the season.

It is a second spell at Harmsworth Park for the 21-year-old who has recently been on loan at Clachnacuddin while studying sport and fitness at Inverness College UHI.

MacRae, from Helmsdale, was part of the Scorries' 2015/16 and 2016/17 squads. His last game for Wick was in April 2016.

Academy thanked Brora for their cooperation in making the deal happen.

MacRae was in the news earlier this year for making a potentially life-saving bone marrow donation.

He had registered with the Anthony Nolan Trust and was identified as a match for a cancer patient.

Speaking at the time, Macrae said: "I feel really privileged to be able to do this and hopefully save someone’s life.”

He had been inspired to sign up to the Anthony Nolan register three years previously to show support for Brora girl Michaela Ballantyne, who successfully underwent a bone marrow transplant.

At the time MacRae was not a match, but his sample later proved to be suitable for another patient.
