FORMARTINE have made a flying start to the season but Tom McKenna’s Scorries will be aiming to throw a spanner in the works tomorrow.

Academy travel to North Lodge Park where they’ll face a United side looking to extend their 100 per cent record.

Paul Lawson’s men have carried on from their fine run at the end of last season and have won their first four games of the current campaign.

Sitting pretty at the top of the league, confidence is high at the Pitmedden side and they will be targeting Wick as a means to make it five in a row.

However, in Academy they’ll be facing a team keen to bounce back from a disappointing performance in last weekend’s 2-0 home defeat against Deveronvale.

And, as McKenna points out, all 100 per cent records have to go sometime.

“Someone has got to stop them and I don’t see any reason why it should not be us,” he said.

“If we put in the type of performance I know we’re capable of, we can give them a tough game.

“This fixture last year saw us play very well and be unlucky not to have come out of that with at least one point.

“It’s a good surface that they have at North Lodge which suits our style of play – but we know that we will be up against a very good team.

“Formartine have good financial backing, they have a nice wee set-up there and they are in a good catchment area in terms of attracting players.

“I’m not surprised that they have made a good start.”

Academy have made a mixed start to their Highland League campaign with two wins and two defeats.

McKenna added: “I may be biased but on our day we are a good side. However, we need more of those days.

“Before last week, the lads were buoyant and enjoying their football only to perform as they did in our defeat to Deveronvale.

“I don’t know if they went into that game thinking it would be easy after beating Nairn 4-1 on their own patch, but they were certainly a different side to the one that played them.”
